Ahmed Ishfaq is a household name in Indian Football. Known for his exhilarating pace and deadly finishing, he is one of the top strikers in the country.
A role model for footballers across the nation, he has a huge fan following in Kashmir, and thousands of people turn out to see him when he plays in Srinagar.
Ishfaq started from humble beginnings and always remain grounded as he explains his story “
“I started my Football like every young Kashmiri starts in their childhood, with Football in your locality. Since SP collage was just close by I used to go there often. I consider myself lucky that I am from Barbarshah locality – it has produced lots of great footballers, the likes of Late Farooq Sb. So I’m always grateful to Allah swt and my parents”.
I started playing in local tournaments later and my performance soon caught eye of some big clubs in Kashmir but I decided to play for YMCA from Biscoe school.
I started representing state in nationals and then came my turning point during U-21 national I was declared man of the tournament. This was the first time in Kashmir football history that someone was declared man of the tournament at national level. Soon offers started coming from some of the big clubs of India, so me and my team mate Mehraj decided to play for HAL Bangalore.
The rest as they say, is history.
Ishfaq went on to play for all the big clubs of India as well as the Indian National team. He had the honor of leading then national club of India Mohun Bagan as captain also.
The story of Ahmed Ishfaq is of hardwork and determination, and shows that with guidance and the help of Allah, talent can be realized into world class potential.
Ishfaq featured for Kerala Blasters in the recent season of Indian Soccer League (ISL), and is both a player and coach. He recently led scouting activities for the franchise, working closely with owner Sachin Tendulkar.
Ishfaq has made Kashmir proud and continues to inspire thousands of young budding footballers to make it big.
