Majid Yousuf is one of the renowned names in Kashmir football. He comes from a family of football celebrities – his father Mohammed Yousuf Dar was the first international footballer from Kashmir, and his brother Sajid Yousuf is the coach of the Indian national women’s team.

Majid started playing football at the age of 8, and got selected for Sports Authority of India Team, and was provided free sponsorship for studying, boarding and lodging with daily football training at Tyndale Biscoe School.

He captained the state school team in the national Subroto Cup and participated in almost every school and junior nationals in various categories. He was awarded best Footballer of the year by Education Dept in 1998-99 after captaining University of Kashmir for two consecutive years.

After that, he captained YMCA team and played for JKSRTC & Iqbal Sports before joining J&K Bank Football Team. He Played for J&L in tournaments like Durand Cup, Federation Cup, Santosh Trophy & I- League Tournaments many times.

After finishing playing career he got selected to pursue PG in Sports Management from N.Tata Institute IISWBM University of Kolkata. After successful completion of the course, he got an opportunity to work as Management Trainee in events like FIH Hockey World Cup 2010, Nehru International Gold Cup, Asian Archery, Commonwealth Games 2010 and ICC Cricket WC 2011.

Majid is the only sports person in State having a professional qualification in Sports Management and served as team manager of J&K Bank Football Team for 4 consecutive years, besides being appointed as team manager of J&K State Team in Santosh Trophy in 2014.

Majid was an influential figure in getting Kashmiri clubs to participate in the I-League, the first of which was Lonestar Kashmir FC. He was part of discussions between the All India Football Federation (AIFF), J&K Football Association and Lonestar FC in catering to the regulations for clubs to play in the I-League.

He prepared a road map of professionals clubs/ academies to participate in I-League and other professional tournaments for teams like Lonestar Kashmir FC, Real Kashmir FC, J&K Bank Academy and recently for State Football Academy of Sports Council; also is a key member in important strategic meetings of the J&K Football Association.
